in the past few weeks my system occasionally refuses to shut down through the normal win 95 shut down ...it just returns to the desktop screen instead of going to the "Please wait while windows".....
In addition to that the time is no longer staying correct...instead only keeps time while the computer is on..
the only change has been to add RAM...
any input would be appreciated!

Sounds as if the battery on your MotherBoard is going dead/low... See if it is in a sockett and can be easily replaced. MB type?
Heart - give us the model of your mobo or CPU manufacturer and give us more details on what you did with the RAM - what did you add exactly?
Probably is the CMOS RAM battery as indicated above, but a failure to exit might indicate a problem with the system trying to clear the RAM and being unable to do so.
Also, give us specifics with what you mean about the clock - does it only lose time when the power is off, or does the clock always lose time- even with the system under your watchful eye?

If the board is over a year old the couple of bucks to change the CMOS bat would be money well spent. Prior to starting the shutdown problems did you do anything to the system configuration? Such as New software/drivers ect?
What version of Windows are you running? Win95, 95a, 95b 95c ect. What motherboard and cards?

I'm sorry to interrupt, but why and how is CMOS battery related with closing session of Windows .
Thanks for answer.

medo,
CMOS battery probably has nothing to do with the shut-down issue. However, Heartstorm also reported an issue with his/her puter losing time......and that is most likely a CMOS battery that is low or failing.

Yes, It was my mistake I did not read carefully. Problem with time is probably related with CMOS battery.

Something in BIOS may be scrammbled/incorrect due to low battery, so it wouldnt be worth fixing until the battery is replaced. (Problem could re-appear when sys. is turned off) Then we can take care of the other issues.. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif 1 problem at a time.
