I am running a 36X cd rom as secondary master with a 6.5 maxtor hd attached. both are at dma, and I also have a scsi yamaha cd-rw. I am running on a 400 mhz amd k6-2 computer with win 98 & 64 megs of ram. When I try to play Civilization 2, and a mulitmedia scene comes up or just another scene where you speak to another country leader, it slows down to a super slow crawl. If I try to pull up another program, it takes at least 20 secs, the mouse cursor moves quickly, but everything else goes really slow. If I wait for a few minutes, then things will be back to normal, but it sucks!!! Is it the cd-rw, possibly wrong bios settings, or something else? This is the first incident I have come across. Please help me!!!!

Try putting your hard drives on one port as master and slave then put your CDrom reader as master on secondary port, make sure your scsi writer has a drive letter higher than your cdreader.

You say you try to pull up another program and it slows to a super crawl. That makes me think it is not a prob w/the cd rom drive, but a problem with low system resources. Also, over time, windows registry becomes cluttered, causing the system to run slower.

Are you sure your drives have dma caps?
