ok, I have ver 5.0 installed. I was doing a reply to a e-mail sunday morning. I went to send it. and I thought it was sent. I had made the mistake of sending it to myself. and so I resent it and than my machine just locked up. everything just froze. mouse, keyboard. crt/alt/del wouldn't do anything. had to do the on/off to shut down the system. so. I tried to delete it. and evertime I highlite the the e-mail. everything freezes again. it always shows as 1 in comeing message in the inbox. but, I can't touch it without a freeze up. the only way out is to turn off the machine. and if oe starts up and the e-mail is highlited. it dose the same thing. what do you think. I hate to have to reinstall. I have over 400 inbox e-mails from my on-line deals and suppliers. I'm afarid to hardly touch something for fear of loseing them all. I don't know what to do. do you. never heard ot this. and yes, I virus scaned everything.
also, I'm running full ver. oem 98 with plus98. also sometimes when I typing a black box will cover my letters and I can't see it unless I highlite it or start typeing again. and than the box just dropes down below the letters.

I use save all my emails also untill I started to have problems similiar to yours with OE4 ..now I have floppies for each contact and transfer them to those..it was sugested by a tech at M$ and for once they actuslly did help...it stopped as soon as I cleared my folders
I only do this once a week and it is not really time consuming and well worth the trouble...for files and attachments I have a folder named for them also with each persons name..since I have a burner I will soon start to put them them on cdrw's

Okay before trying it backup the file that has all you inbox mails... then use IE to enter the Windows Update. Click on Show Installed Components and check Outlook Express and resintall it over the version you already have.
As for the box... never heard of that one before... and checked for virus you say... have you tried making an emergency disk on a virus free computer and scanned it?

I've had this happen before. The best thing you can do to get rid of the bad message is to first hilite another message adjacent to the bad one, then hold down your shift key while hilighting (selecting) the bad message. Then both messages will be selected and you can simply choose to delete them. This goes around the problem by never opening the bad email. Let me know if this works for you.

I just went and tried that. with no luck. it still freezes the whole machine. except I can move the mouse pointer. but, that's about all. I still can't figure this out. one thing about. I haven't had that many problems in the 18 years of these machines. except for misc. virus's, becoming my best friends lol.but, when I do. I do. any more takers on this problem?
