Will there be big difference in performance?
I have celeron 366@550. I read that for 128mb
you need 512cache for peformance increase.
Or if you don't have 512 disable L2 cache.
Thanks
Hi
You will see a big perf increase. Go for it !
I am curious, where did you hear about the need of having 512Kb cache ?

If I recall right, the original Pentiums featured the external L2 cache on a small SIMM looking stick that slotted near the CPU and or embedded them in the motherboard.
It was said that system could significantly slow down if you exceeded the 64-megabyte threshold and didn't have the full 512K of L2 cache.
It’s been a while since I’ve thought about first generation Pentiums but I believe that might be the source he is referring too.

* I had an ASUS board which did not have the cache integrated into the motherboard. You actually had a choice to either install 256k or 512k of stick of cache ram.

I just upped from 64mb to 192mb. Definitely an improvement for me. Of course it's not uncommon for me to:
- have 4-6 browser windows open (sometime both NS & IE)
- Windoze File Exploer open
- a couple Notepads open
- Winamp playing some .mp3's
- Gamespy minimized in the tray
- Agent open (newsgroup reader)
- ACDSee open
- a DOS window open
...and with all that **** running I still try to do things like "just pop into" Photoshop (yeah, like that's possible) to edit an image, and usually just end up waiting...and waiting...as virtual memory gets substituted for real, and my machine grinds down to the speed of a 386/20mhz. But alas! No more! 192mb pc100 RAM is very nice. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

I'll second that. I have been running that for over a year now. working on two 128's if I can get them at a good price. and now they know how I catch all the deals. I have. sysopt, host, ang,Mr:C's and sometime windows help net or something else. all in my tray. and I just play. let's swap the sites.lol
O, and I almost forgot. can't leave out the most important one. outlook express. hehe

Noticed a big difference going from 64 to 128, but recently changed to 256 (2 sticks 128) and haven't yet noticed any increase whatsoever. Kinda dissapointed.

ON my HP 6350, amd333, went from pc66-64meg to 160mb and fount litte if any improvement (I do photos),, however on a Pentium 100, from 16 to 64 was a great speed increase. Then a o/c to 120mhz on cpu,, a smoker!!
