When I boot up I get a choice of starting with hard drive C or D. At one time I had my operating system on hard drive D but now it is on hard drive C and have deleted the OS from drive D. I understand there is a file in the registry that I can delete and thus get rid of the extra screen showing the two choices at startup. Would you know what that file is so that I might use "find" in regedit to get rid of it?

you'd have to edit the boot.ini file to remove the second entry.

you can just choose not to show the menu.

my computer properties - advanced - startup and recovery settings - uncheck time to display list of operating systems

Or change the time to 0 seconds.

Thanks for the fast reply- both responses sound like the key to the problem. BUT, I have another problem. If you will notice the attachment; my computer does not have any advanced options when right clicking it. Tried looking up boot.ini in the registry but it claims there is no file there to work on.

As for zero seconds; where do I find it?

:x This is really getting to be a bearcat.

The file, Boot.ini is located in the Root Directory of your
C Drive ... just right click on it & edit it with Notepad
After you edit out the wrong info, click Save

If you are uncofortable doing it manually see the link below:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/289022/

It details step by step how to fix it

Make a copy of the file first and save it
in another directory, such as My Documents

boot.ini is not a registry file. you'd have to show hidden and system files to see it.

what do you mean you don't have advanced properties? you have to go to my computer properties first. then the advanced tab. then the startup and recovery settings.

I think it's easiest to just uncheck it, but you can choose any method you want.

or find boot.ini by start > run> msconfig

You can edit from there.

Marvin,

The screwen shot you provided indicates you are trying to right click on a short cut pointing to my computer. That is why you can not see the tabs mentioned above. Try the My Computer icon in the start menu or use the display properties to customize your desktop and make My COmputer show up there.
