Heyo,
I've got Win95 SP1 with IE 5.01 installed. I usually (but not 100% of the time, oddly) get the Windows Login when I restart the computer. It's the first Windows Login prompt you see though (the one that claims that if you don't put a password you won't be prompted to login again - what a lie!). I have TweakUI installed. I have never had "Clear Last User Logged on" checked. In Passwords, I have always had "All users use the same preferences, etc" checked. I have deleted the PWL file many times trying to fix this. HELP! This is driving me up the wall! ;(
Don't I remember something about just leaving the password fields blank and hitting enter/clicking <ok> and it stops asking you automatically?
Did this box ever have Win NT on it? - Could be left-over policy programming
Do you have a pass-word protected PCAnywhere program on the system which is set to automatically start each time?
Could just be a corrupt win95 load.
Also - did you set any of the security measures in IE5? - If you have a part of active desktop installed and IE5 set to require a password - that might be the problem.
Let us know if you find it.

Have you tried not putting a password? Just leaving a blank as a password it disappears the logon window.
Another thing I have noticed on Win95 is that when you install TweakUI in some computers the logon windows appears and when removing TweakUI also makes the logon window disappear... why? Don't know don't know if it's your case.

I don't have a Network Neighborhood on my desktop. True, when I go into the Networking Control Panel and remove Client for MS Networks, I don't get prompted for the password at login, but I also don't have the option of saving my password when using DUN.
I had previously not been putting in a password, just a username. I know back before I had to reinstall Windows a couple months ago, I only had to do that once (only put in a username and no PW). Something somewhere is messed up...

Think-you got two different problems
here.
Use lec169's suggestion to end the first log-on
Then look here for the Dun pasword problem
Dun save password (http://www.sysopt.com/forum/Forum2/HTML/003601.html)
They changed this KB article since I last used it. I had the same problem a year ago
with win 95 and it suggested first trying the improved DUN, I think it was
DUN ver. 1.3 you may want to check there
download site for it first.

You will lose the option to save your DUN password if you remove Microsoft networking all together. Go to network properties, and be sure Windows Logon is selected in Primary Network Logon rather than Microsoft Networking.

OK, I seem to have resolved that problem and another I was having:
I completely removed Client for Microsoft Networks, choosing NOT to keep any files when told I was going to over-write newer files with older ones from the Win95 CD. Previously I had been keeping these, and that was probably part of the problem.
I then re-added the Client mentioned above. I had also been having a problem with MSIE 5.01 where is was slower than anything and displaying tables stretched way beyond the right edge of my screen, so I uninstalled it and went back to IE4. Problem solved.
Thanks all for your help.
