They are basically the same cpu, so I don't see why it wouldn't work. check the MB manual or the manufacturer's website to be sure.

It's a Gigabyte K8NNXP-940 and they say only FX 51 and FX 53. I was wondering if the opteron could be used in spite of the manufacturers suggested CPU list. My understanding is that they are identical chips but I'm just not sure.
