Right now I've got a junky $20 Optical mouse from Wal-Mart, and I'm getting really sick of it. So I'm gonna buy me a new mouse in the next couple weeks. So far there's two I'm looking at, the Logitech G7 and the Logitech MX1000. I'll be using it for all types of games from RPG's to FPS's to RTS's. I want something that's fast response, and must be wireless. I'm sick of cords. I'm leaning more towards the G7 because of it's ability to switch between optical resolutions, but I wanted to ask what you guys thought. Any of you used either of these mice? Or anyone used any other wireless mice for gaming that work nicely?

Also, what about gaming controllers? I was looking at the Logitech Cordless Rumblepad 2, as it's wireless and looks to be a well build, high quality gamepad. I'd mostly just use it for sports games, like Madden NFL and NBA Live, and a few emulated games here and there, so all I'd need is just responsive buttons.

Thanks for the input.

The G7 allows you to control the sensitivity of the mouse on the fly. For that reason, I wish I had that over my MX1000.

However, the MX1000 is an outstanding mouse. :t

That's what I was thinking... being able to slow down the mouse when sniping and then pop right back into high sensitivity when you jump into a tank. Seems like it's the best gaming mouse on the market right now. Unless someone else knows of one better?

And.. don't forget the latest one the G3. I just read about it on Tech Reports.., and it has a really nice menu control adjustments for perferred gaming or high -low DPI.
The drawback is that it is not hand fitted, and mor like the older mice we knew back then.. Sleek....and its cordewd I beleive also. Got a 8 out of ten.., and only negative was the size and feel. I'm sure if you looked in some retail site it would be there (PIC. )

I will never go back to a corded mouse ever. Its like cable TV. Once you have it theres no going back. This ole Logitech MX700 is still going strong, but the enamel is wearing thin and missing in spots. I bouhgt an extra set of batteries and if you can believe, I am virtually using the same set the ouse came with after four years. Yeas.. four or more years. About once very year or two i switch to the other set.
This was one of the better buys for its day, unlike most computer parts where you constantly have to upgrade or spend money all over again.

Well, if the G3 is corded I won't even look at it. I'm sick of cords running all over the place, and especcialy sick of having my mouse cord get stuck against my tower and me not be able to move it, and then me die in a game because of it.

So far the G7 is looking to be the best buy for a wireless gaming mouse.

Yeah, I've noticed that too, and so that's where I plan on buying one. I saw one go for $40~, so hopefully I can get one for that cheap.

Definitely the Laser mouses from logitechi prefer the MX1000 :t

the newer models has less buttons :p

Well, I definantly love the extra buttons on the MX1000, but it doesn't have the ability to change DPI on the fly (ha, DPI on the fly, that rhymes, I'm so good). So I think I'd sacrifice the couple buttons for that, since I'll be playing a lot of different types of games with it.
I'm gonna look into that Razor a little more, but I don't think it has the ability to change the DPI, but I may be wrong about that. The colors are definantly awesome, I'd definantly give it 5/5 for the style.

Edit: OK, the Razor DOES have sensitivity adjustment (DPI on the fly:) )

I will always buy Logitech . first and foremost. They are at the top of the class in this area.

Lets face it... if there was a contest.. the last five mouses put out were all by Logitech.. and they were 'best ' in thier class and first for faster DPI versus controllibility. A+ porducts

I got to play on my friend's G7, and the sensitivity change feature was so cool, especially when playing in Battlefield 2. I could turn up the sensitivity when I was running for quick reactions, and back down for sniping so it could be ultra precise. The mouse is just plain cool.

If anybody would tell me how to open up one of these things for cleaning, I would give the Razer a thumbs up.

However, as of now, my Razer has oil and dirt stuck in the wheel, and I have no idea of how to open it up for cleaning like what I normally do with other gaming mouse.

Sleek and cool design for Razer, but they overlooked the after-sales and the long-term issues that customers are bound to experience. Or maybe they don't expect you to open it up to clean, just throw it away when the wheel gets stuck finally and buy a new Razer. :r

I've used both the logitech g7 and the razer copperhead. Both are sweet mice and both allow you to change sensitivity on the fly. If you have big hands i would suggest going for the g7 it's alot more comfortable. The buttons on the copperhead seem to be alittle awkward for me.

Sounds like Apple, selling hyped up stuff, and then making a killing over sales of expensive accessories... )-|

I'll be looking forward to this kit, and its retail price.

when it comes to gaming mices ( that the plural word ? ) they are not the best!

razer is a bit, just a tiny bit better. i read a lot of reviews here in germany and the razer mouse ( copperhead and diamondback ) were better, but like i said only a bit

but it doesnt matter in the end, i love my razer diomondback but some of my mates just hate that mouse, they cant handle it, and by some its the other way around

ill keep my diamondback as long as it works
my brother has the g5 and its a great mouse too

Well, the Razer Copperhead is 100% out of the question for me, it's not wireless. I will NOT buy another wired mouse. I'm switching every input device I can to wireless, my mouse, my keyboard, my gamepad... all of it. The only thing I won't be going wireless in atm is my headset. From what I've heard there is absolutely no lag with current-gen wireless mice, so I'm not worried about that at all.
I get paid in a week, and so I'll be buying a mouse then. I'm really swinging towards to G7, even though it doesn't have as many buttons as the MX1000. I just think overall the G7 will be a little better of a gaming mouse than the MX1000, even though I'm sure they're both great gaming mice.

Its my opinion after following all the changes in mice over the past few years.., that if you can get any mouse up to a 1500-2000DPi, then that should be plenty good for any gamer.

My mouse works fine and actaully very good for all games online or not.., and I have tried the MX1000 mouse and think since the DPI is even better than what I have now.., then with all its control, good looks and battery life, one should just get that.. Maybe save a few dollars.
Mostly all your getting with the newer mouse is a slightly higher DPI, and a more pleasing control panel for sensitivity.

Other than who knows what next.., I think the mouse is comging to an end of this currrent tech. age.. Design of seems to be the one concern that most look for. Most mice are fast enough nowadays. Alot of us just don't want cords ( they are a big hassle after you have switched....you'll never go back ), and also we want the battery life to be as long as possible. The latest Logitech mice ( G5 and others ) have gotten better as to battery life.. That is a very good thing. LOL ;)

Hey all, just thought I'd throw my opinion in here. To be quite honest a mouse is practically 95% user opinion and 5% stats. I have a LOT of gaming mice, i own the Microsoft intellieye explorer 1.0 and 3.0, the logitech mx 510, 518, and the razer copperhead. All the mice have their perks and downfalls, out of all of them the copperhead is the most comfortable however the laser in it is almost... too good, it picks up everything under it and owning a cat this is not a good thing because he gets hair on my mousepad and if that laser goes over the smallest piece of hair it will skip. The mx510 and 518 are basically the exact same mouse accept the 518 has the higher DPI and the on the fly adjustment, to me the on the fly isnt a big deal nor is the 1600 dpi vs 800 since i typically go for very low DPI because i am a low sensitivity player. As for wireless mice they have definately come a long way in the gaming age, the logitech g7 is probably the best at the moment but I won't use it do to lack of side buttons, it only has one and I need at least 2 as I use these, if I were to go wireless i would most likely go with one of the newer microsoft wireless laser mice that have the 2 side buttons, but like i said mice are 95% user opinion and 5% about the stats, because when it comes down to it.. a mice only makes you better because you are more comfortable with it not because of the stats and if you look at the professional gamers they prove this because i see so many of them using the old intellieye explorer 1.0 which has only 400 dpi and is one of the very first optical mice and then they could be opposing someone using the finest of gaming mice the razer copperhead and the copperhead player could lose, so really when choosing a mouse... pick whats comfortable for you and fits your needs. That is all :).

I don't like the Microsoft wireless mice. I used to have one on my computer, and at 1 1/2 feet, the mouse would not always pickup, and the mouse would lose signal almost constantly. So I gave it to a family member, and picked up an MX1000.

Any complaints about the MX1000? Nope. It does everything that the microsoft optical mouse did, and much more. It is more comfortable, it's signal is rock solid, and the battery life for a rechargable mouse is phenominal. Unless Microsoft has made considerable strides since I had my other wireless mouse, Logitech is the clear winner. :t

I would never buy a Microsoft mouse. All I've ever heard about Microsoft mice is that they're "sub par" mice. Logitech in my mind is the clear, 100% winner of all computer input devices. I would hardly rank any Microsoft mouse as a "gaming" mouse. I might consider Razer... IF they make a good WIRELESS mouse.

And the more I look at it, the more I want the MX1000. For those of you that use it, are all the buttons programable in games like BF2 and WoW? I have to say that I'd like being able to set up combo moves for WoW on a single mouse click, but I just wonder if the MX1000 is capable of that?

I actually love my microsoft mice, if they still made the 3.0 or the 1.0 i would buy one and would use it over any mouse out there as they fit my hand perfectly and the button placement was flawless. The only wireless microsoft mouse i had was a ball mouse way back when wireless mice were just hitting the market and I never had any issues with it.

I once owned a Microsoft Intellimouse Explorer 1.0. The darned wheel just disintegrated after 5 years of usage. :x

And I didn't know it when they recalled the mice due to some design flaw with the power cord.

Looks like alot of you are at least old enough to remember when MS had the market cornered ( like eveything else ).., then a new boy came to town called Logitech. and DARN if they din't knock the snickers off the big boys.
Actually, If not mistaken I think my mouse ( MX700 ) was the first mouse put out by a commpany that was wireless and used rechargable batteries. I can remember thats why i bought it.

I stil have my Intellimouse Explorer.. ; the blue one with a cord and red light at the base. Its optical., which was a big deal back then and still is a huge factor nowadays for alot of mice.. To be honest the thing works great other than the left side button just broke one day ( puched in slightly ) so i taped it some and use it while my MX700 charges in its holder. I can play games OK and it wks good .but heres the issue: THE CORD!

Initial mice put out that used batteries for optical were not the rechargable kind. Every week to week and a half you had to buy batteries and that is very expensive. Obviously a big fault. It was for me ..so i never looked back.
Phenomenal that a mouses batteries can last like over three years now..and closer to four.

Mice are definitely a user choice kind of item as is alot of computer stuff, then wea ll go into why we have this or like that better, and realy THATS WHAT ITS ALL ABOUT. Thats what we all do. Testers.. Like it or not..,we all are testers unkowingly testing the industrys good and bad.

Ever see that commercial with the toads saying they like DSL bwecause its wayyy slower?? Well, that proves some little point. some of us do not like super duper extra speed.
I game alot oline and yes the mouse is th most important thing. Matter of choice.., pure and simple. After that comes the gaming surface and theres lots out there for that also.

To top this off, I'sd say its hard to debate anything without actaully using a certain mouse in person for AWHILE. A invariable test drive if you will.

Pheriphials make a difference. No doubt about it ;)

sorry but i never ever had to clean my mouse in the "inside", and i cant understand how a mouse should get dirty in there, if oil etc gets in there, well, own fault

and whats so hard opening a razer mouse? the screws are under the mouse feets, pull them off and there you are
but if you do it, the guaranty ( that the correct word? ) is gone

Alot of ordinary mouse surfaces.. ( matte or other ) do absorb most of your natural skin oils and the other such as soil and dirt. That is how it gets dirty...

This pretty generic mousing surface I use needs cleaning about every three days or so...and wow!.., it does get soiled alot.

JediOfDarkness

I know my old ball mice used to need cleaning every couple months... but I've never had to clean an optical before. I guess maybe the sensor could get dirty, but I'd think you could just wipe that off with a tissue.
