Hi, hoping for solution, ideas, suggestions...

Trying to play an MPEG 4 *.avi. Problem is no video plays back. Using RealPlayer 7 Basic (Help file ver 6.0.7.362) and, Windows Media Player ver 6.4.07.1112.

The following messages are displayed:

RP7: Unable to render video; MP43 decompressor not found.
MPlyr: A decompressor was downloaded for this file, but it didn't work. You may need to restart your player or browser. Error=80040200

I have reinstalled both and re-upgraded (rebooting and shutting down) both using low security settings; same low security settings when attempting to play .avi.

I have gone here (Mplyr): http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/q230/6/87.asp (Not applied: upgrade to IE5.01)

I have looked here (RP7, Mplyr): http://139.174.253.13/pub/TEXT/EXPERT/docs/in-notes/iana/assignments/wave-avi-codec-registries (No MP43 listed)

I did this (MPlyr): http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q191/5/33.ASP (I edited system.ini)

I have d/l this (RP7) from the RP7 KB (Knowledge Base): http://support.intel.com/support/createshare/camerapack/codinstl.htm (Codec Installer [CODINSTL.EXE]) Thinking maybe the video recording device used.

I have gone into Control Panel/Multimedia/Devices/+Video Compression Codecs. MPEG-4 Video High Speed Compressor is listed, among many other various entries. No conflicts or double entries.

Win98, IE 5.0, Netscape 4.61.

If you gotten through all this, perhaps you have a suggestion or idea. I'm hoping it's not a corrupted *.avi file that led me to this point, but the *.avi was sent to me via d/l and it works fine for him with the same RP7 and MPlyr versions.

In advance, Thanks! http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

SoCal,

I'm sorry but it sure sounds like a corrupted avi to me http://www.sysopt.com/forum/frown.gif what size is the file? Did they send it to you thru an Email?

Hi Mntsnow

I compared our files' sizes and both are 2811K (which leads me to believe there has been no corruption). The .avi was downloaded from a server.

Seems only the MPEG 4 format is giving me trouble. Meanwhile, I'm going to try to find another MPEG 4 .avi online and see if I have the same problem.

Thanks http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

Mntsnow,

I'm afraid I can't do that - it's a development test that I can't distribute. But I do appreciate the offer.

What's got me is that it plays on 2 other persons with the same players... guess I'll just keep trying!

Btw, I tried without the proxy and BID, still no luck.

NP, Mntsnow..

Well, no luck http://www.sysopt.com/forum/frown.gif I just don't get it.

I d/l'd QuickTime 4 and it doesn't work either, but I haven't done a readme to see if it supports MPEG 4.

If anyone has a clue...
