When building a SLi system, do you have to have 2 identical type of video cards ( example 2 x 7900GT) or can you mix your cards, ( 1 7600GT and 1 7900GT) and put them into SLi mode?

SLI only works when you pair 2 of the same type of cards together. You can't mix and match cards for SLI. In other words 2 x 7900GT (prefferably the same manufacturer) is the only way SLI will work.

MadPistol is correct, only the same cards. If you were making a CrossFire system, however, you could use two different cards.
