Hey all,

I'm doing a new build for my son in a few days. I'm going with the above referenced motherboard and I've gotten him a 74Gb Raptor for this new build. We'll be adding a second PATA HD after the dust settles.

Down to brass tacks--my question is about installing Windows XP Pro when everything is all assembled.

On my first build (using an Asus A8V Deluxe) I remember going to the VIA website to download a driver to a floppy disk so at the appropriate time I could select f6 while installing XP.

Will I need to do this again?--I can't seem to find anything in the mobo manual or the Asus support website that spells this out. In my first build (using the A8V Deluxe) I found several posts and support sites that spelled out how to do this and where to get the driver...

I did see a post somewhere that said I only need to use the f6 function on the XP Install if I am planning on using SATA II (not planning to use SATA II)

Thoughts from the community are most gratefully accepted.

Thanks
Rob

I found this post that seems very helpful...in it it says that installing additional drivers is not necessary if we are not going with a RAID setup...(we aren't)...does this mean I can simply skip past the "additional drivers" prompt when I install XP...seems iffy..I guess I'd rather install the raid drivers in case I needed them in the future.

Okay...I think I've been thinking too much...or not enough??

I did a google on "Nvidia nforce 4 drivers" and came up with this website http://www.nvidia.com/object/nforce_nf4_winxp32_amd_6.66.html

I've downloaded the whole package to my desktop...Now...for my purpose...all I need to do now is put the correct driver on the floppy and have it ready for the "F6" moment...will that be Nvidia SATA IDE , or Nvidia SATA Raid...Or should I load both?

NVidia Sata IDE would be the correct driver. You won't be using RAID.

When you download it from NVidia...you'll get a huge PDF document too. That doesn't need to go on the floppy to boot from.
