hi experts,

i got an old ECS K7VZA mobo with the VIA VT8368A Apollo VT133A chipset onboard so it can run 266mhz FSB.

at the moment i got an athlon 900mhz thunderbird socket A/462 and want to put a more powerful cpu in the pooter.

do i have to stick with the thunderbirds and look for a secondhand 1.4ghz model or can i also install an athlon XP 1600+ socket A (palomino) cpu?

this unit runs at 1.4ghz and has a 266mhz fsb, which is within the limitations of the mobo.

any advice is much appreciated, thanks.

go into the BIOS and see how high the Multipliers can go, then you can shop for the highest A-XP CPU for this mobo

You can use up to a 1.5 processor (maybe higher).
