Help! I have an Abit UL8 with an Athlon64 3200+,512Ram ,160 gig Maxtor HD. My problem is ,I can't see a POST screen until I clear the cmos. I can't change any Bios settings because once I do anything, it will not boot till I clear the cmos. I have been able to install windows but every reboot means I must clear cmos to resume. What have I missed? All parts are brand new.

First, replace the motherboard battery. Next, be sure that the CMOS jumper is on the correct pins.
Update the BIOS if you haven't yet. If you have, try reverting to a previous BIOS.

battery replaced. CMOS jumpers are on correct pins, flashed Bios before I posted because it was doing it before. Have also used maxblast in case it was because of HD threshhold.

Ok then - check for bad capacitors:

There's definitely something wrong with the motherboard.

you've made sure RAM, CPU, even video cards compatible with mobo, etc? Had a similar problem when upgrading - usually try to use similar or same mobos when upgrading comps (usually 3 at a time for the boys) inexplicable but sometimes it's been a memory or other incompatibility issue that affects one system but not the others?
