I recently replaced my HD. After I finished with installing Windows98 I noticed that several of my devices are sharing IRQs.

I have my motherboard set to automatically set the IRQs because i don't know much about it.
my system appears to run ok mostly but i think it may be set up wrong. I need some advice please or instructions.

this is what i have:
Celeron 466@525
WD Expert 13.6 hard drive
US Drives 48x cd
Diamond SupraMax 56k PCI modem
ATI Expert@play video card pci

thnaks!

Some IRQs may be shared - this is perfectly OKAY and normal provided that there are no conflicts. If you are using Win9x, then I am sure that you know about checking the Device Manager for yellow exclaimation marks and other such signs of trouble.

On rare occasions a resource conflict can occur without showing any problems; an example of this is when you use an AGP graphics card and have some device like a network card in the PCI slot next to the AGP - random lock-ups can occur and other system lags.

Since you say the system works, I would recommend that you download some benchmarking software and see what your results are before jumping to any conclusions. One thing I can tell you is that you can make trouble for yourself by changing IRQs unnecessarily. I suggest you try "Sisoft Sandra" and "Wintune" to test your system. You can find Wintune at www.winmag.com (http://www.winmag.com) and you can find Sandra at www.sisoftware.demon.co.uk/sandra/ (http://www.sisoftware.demon.co.uk/sandra/)
