Hi
Im operating XP pro service pack 1 and have recently installed office 97.
i have an access database file which used to open in W98 but now brings up the message "not enough memory, please close down one or more applications" or something very close to that.
I have got unbalanced ram on board (1 x 512 & 1 x 256) but had no problems with this under W98.
Anyone got any ideas?
Thanks
Leo

Yep Thanks Mireland i will try it, I hav'nt checked but I thought the virtual memory size is set to auto and therefore would adjust to suit?

Why are you using XP SP2 yet?
Why on Earth are you running Access 97? You are only asking for issues like this by running software that is 10 years old. Upgrade to at least Office 2000 or 2003.
Have you tried Open Office yet? It may be worth a shot.

Hello there Sterling_Aug, does your name sterling suggest that you you have plenty of sterling to spend? lol. I on the other hand don't.
With regard to service pack two although I run that at work and belive its more secure etc i've also heard that it can be incompatible with some programs and having lots of music software I'm reluctant to go there.

SP2 can be uninstalled.
OpenOffice is free.

surely open office isnt compatible with my existing access file which by the way has over a 5 thousand hyperlinked records in it (don't fancy entering all those in again)
Anyway any more ideas about getting my access 97 working would be helpful as its working perfectly well in my xp system at my workplace
Thanks all

I have yet to see a file NOT open in Open Office that was created in Microsoft Office (All versions). The only possible problems could be esoteric macros that would not convert to Open Office.
Any incompatibilites in SP2 have long been fixed with more patches. Get you head out of your a.r.s.e (m8) and install SP2.

Yep have installed SP2 last night along with a new XP version of my music software (£250 it's never ending) forgot to tell you guys at the beginning of thread only just got onto XP from W98 lol. Anway the sp2 install made no difference to problem so I took out 256Meg (memory was unbalanced 1 x 512 & 1 x 256) and office works a treat.
Should have tried that first.
Thanks for your help everyone
Hope your jokin Sterling because where i come from telling someone their heads up their **** is fighting talk. lol
