After installing & removing a program, I now have various errors. I have 2 c prompts on boot up that were never there before. In dos I get C:\C:\ Program Files blah blah- bad command or file name. I've gone through sys files but cant find anything unusual,I did remove a couple of lines from my autoexec file, BUT I'm not a sys file guru! any help would be appreciated

If you are running Windows 95/98, chances are good that you do not even need either autoexec.bat or config.sys; try renaming the extensions for these files as ".xyz" files and rebooting. You should be error free, but if it turns out that you need these files then you can always revert back to the original .bat and .sys extensions.

There are also probably several copies of these files that may not have the problems you have with the current files. They are usually called by extensions such as .bac .bak .old .dos - look for these backup copies and try saving them as .bat and .sys respectively, but only after you have saved the original autoexec.bat and config.sys as something else.

Windows98? It may be as easy as typing "msconfig" at the "Run" line and then choosing to "Restore Backup."

Good education for you.

the extra c:\ prompts are from the deleted lines from you autoexec.bat and if any one knows how to get rid of them I would like to know to http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif
the files not found are from lines in your config.sys, sys.ini or win.ini files for the programs you deleted you can do a F8 and boot with step by step comformation it will help find the lines and files and or locations of the intrys that are cousing the cannot find errors

hope that helps http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

Blank lines in autoexec.bat will cause the extra c:\'s.

Thanks for the replies http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif Yes there were blank lines in sys files. I could'nt remove them, then I ended up with a 3rd Cprompt. Was unable to restore bacup files from msconfig, AWESOME lessons eh! It's good to learn http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif
Thanks again
