Hello

It's been trouble-free for sometime in my den but alas good things don't last.

I recently acquired an older Toshiba 12X cd-rom sans manual or addenda. I hooked it up as a slave to my secondary drive and all was well. Fast forward - my cd-rom no longer wants to run. I have it now hooked up as the secondary device on a FIC VA-502+ 1.2A. and at the detection screen on boot-up it detects just dandy and operates at PIO mode 3, in windwoes device manager it is listed correctly.

My question is as follows: Simply, how da f*** do I get it to work again? It has two jumper settings on the back: a, mode select 1 (master, slave, csel; it's on master); b, mode select 2 (currently on the right side setting), what is that? and where should it be if it's a master or a slave? Finally is it an okay idea to slave a cd-rom to a hd? I heard hereabouts sometime ago that it would slow the hd down but frankly that makes no sense whatsoever.
