AMI BIOS version 3 and Phoenix are the BIOS chips, not the BIOS versions.

What mobo do you have?

Whether or not the "State after AC power loss" control is there or not is MUCH more a question of hardware capability than BIOS vendor. Just as well as one can implement the "On/Off/As Before" control with anyone's core BIOS, the hardware designers must have implemented the required circuitry for it.

In short: If your new board doesn't have a control item for it, then the feature isn't there.

pcchips 810LM .

In what manner do you want the pc to start ... auto by timer , remotely or from sleep by keyboard ? All those features should be available in the Power Management section of the bios .

My understanding is, he wants it to restart after an AC power failure.

Hmmm...I don't see any thing about a restart ... my bad then . Still , further explaination would help clarify whats needed .

my bet is that PCChips board doesn't support it - aren't you trying to say when you supply AC you want the PC to start?

And I'd be careful flashing BIOS, PCChips ain't the best brand, and plenty of threads where guys flashed bios when they didn't need to and had a broken comp - if you are looking at a newer BIOS make sure the history says it's gonna fix a problem you're having, or a fix you need.

PC-Chips boards are no more no less "endangered" when flashing a BIOS than any other.

The one thing to make sure is that you got the BIOS update for the EXACT mainboard model you have. PC-Chips have been making TONS of mainboard models, some easily confused with others. Be absolutely sure about what board you have.

thanks for advice... I need a cheap motherboard that i can replace with
'start on ac power' i have just started mobile pc repairs. packed in job etc.
this is my first contract with a guy running 50 pc's in shop's.... no access
to case for switches...no monitor... just barcode reader ..... so it just gets switched on at mains first thing in morning.... the standard spec of the pc's are amd's 1000 to 1800...so pcchips for less than £8 out of local shop was a result.... but not now obviously... help on board that auto starts would be appreciated?
