An article on ZDNET recomends a fixed swap file of 2.5 x amount of your ram. Set your minimum at 320 mg. The maximum can be the remaining free space on your hard drive. scotter 12-03-1999, 08:29 PM #1 the swap files size of 2.5x the amount of memery was for the old computers that only have 8 or 16 meg of ram you do not need a swap file size for over 150meg unless your doing very large files or runing a lot of apps at once #2 if you are going to set up a permant swap file this is the way to do it go in to system, in control panel then performance then vertual memery disable vertual memery close that window it will tell you you need to restart your computer DO NOT restart go and do a complete SCAN DISK when that is done do a complete DEFRAG of your hard drive when that is done go back into the vertual memery settings check ( let me specify my own virtual memery settings ) set the minimum and maximum to the same amount, when you have those set click ok to every thing and reboot your system I use 200 meg becouse I have a game that requires a lot of vertual memery you can start at 150meg (unless you realy need more) if you ever get any problems just do this all over and up the amount also if you have norten scan disk or one of the otheres you can use it to move the swap file to the front of the disk it will speed up transfer"s a bit the scan disk in windows will not do that function Hope this helps http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif jammer699 12-03-1999, 09:27 PM was having promblems with lockups........used the 2.5 x ram........its cured.........lol SysOpt.com
