I just picked up my physics card.
I thought it was a pretty cool thing. The demo that came with it was pretty cool.
im definitely excited for some new games though.. i hope it doesnt bomb.

whats the word here?

I didn't even know they were out yet!

The word is that sofar it is a waste of money pretty much. I have yet to see any promising reviews. Other than the demo's, the card does not seem to do much, and it has a hefty performance penelty as well... Who knows, maybe after drivers have matured and games are coded better it may work well, but as it stands right now, it's pretty much a waste.

in my computer game magazine i get every months was an interesting article and video about these physiscs card from agei ( or whatever that company name is )

ghost recon 3 uses these physiscs and they showed them how it looks with and without the card
not much difference, only more pieces were flying

they said that at the moment its really a waste of money, 300 euros . . .

but in the future it might help for games like ut 2007, crysis etc !

and in 2-3 years it will be standard

Could be exciting eventually, but games will need to be coded to take advantage of it first. My personal standpoint is to wait it out for now, until games are using its power properly.

Do they still take some load off the rest of your hardware on games that AREN'T coded for them?

No they don't, infact even games that do support the card are currently showing massive frame rate DECREASE with physx acceleration enabled.

This is a definite example of something where you need to wait for the killer app. There isn't one yet so there's little point buying one now. In mid-late 2007 the story may be completely different. But for the moment, don't bother.

Wow, so they're not even 100% effective yet. So far they're only for making stuff look pretty, but they forgot about the fact that they were supposed to actually increase performance.

Sounds like a driver issues to me. Like they haven't even coded the part where the PPU is supposed to handle the effects. Right now it generates more effects, and the load still goes to the GPU rofl. Some help it is. Just a thought of what MIGHT be going on. Sounded like a good guess to me. :p

'] whats the word here?

If i were to sum it up in one word... "mistake" would probably be the snappiest way to do so.

See Ramon's comments for general reasons as to why. The thing that will make or break the future of the PhysX is how many new titles adopt it, and how much of a difference it will make to those titles. At present its not many and not much. Furthermore the likes of Ati and nV have *****ions on moving on in physics processing territory via GPU's. If it stays that way expect it to go the way of the dodo rather rapidly.

lets just hope that the physx will be able to hold out until it gets more killer apps

Hmm...I was thinking about a PhysX card, but maybe for now I should hold off on getting a PhysX card and put the extra money towards a spiffier video card and CPU.

Nothing works with them. There is like one game out right now that works, and as it turns out, it makes pretty much no difference on actual gameplay. I would suggest waiting.

ut07 with the physx should kick a** though. and city of villains uses it. and crysis coming out.

When UT2007 and crysis come out (and I get a new computer) I'll consider getting one. Until then, no thanks. :t
