Word cannot print

Help me out here please.

I have this one user who is unable to print from word 2003. She is using a brother MFC 5410 CN 4 in 1 printer. She is using winxp, with sp2 installed. When she tries to print from word and powerpoint, the d### printer doesnt print.the file goes on queue, and then gets deleted without printing. the printer and pc are connected using a usb cable, the printer does not have an LPT1 port.

I unloaded office 2003 and then loaded the office xp, to no avail. i even tried reinstalling the printer drivers, to no avail as well.

Now the funny thing is, the usb cable on the printer port does not want t come out.

Some programs can print fine, EXCEL,NOTEPAD,WORDPAD,ACCESS and i can even print from the internet.

Sounds like a bad cable or a bad USB port.

Does Windows even see the printer?

If the USB cable at the printer port doesn't want to come out, and the printer won't print, then it sounds like the cable is in wrong.

windows sees the printer, hence i can print from notepad, wordpad,access,excel and from the net as well.

i had installed office xp, i will put office xp sp3 instead.

The print job's not disappearing - it thinks it was successfully sent and Word 2003 thinks it printed. Have you printed a test page (just to check the XP printer driver), and a test page from the printer itself. At least then you got two basics out fo the way.

Weird that other MS office apps working fine. Check Word and see what your default is by printing a file and selcting that printer.

- I don't think it's a bad cable, broken port or connected improperly - pretty hard to install a USB cable incorrectly - just won't fit. SP3 wouldn't normally do it either -have you messed with the printer ports - in device manager, BIOS setting for LPT1 or USB port, anything like that?

And trying another cable or plugging the cable into another USB port on her maching and reinstalling the Brother software might help.

as far as i can remember the windows test page came out and a printer test as well.now the problem is that the woman is not in, went to some meeting for 3 days, will come back to you when she returns.

the fuinny thing is i cannot remove the usb cable on the printer, it is stuck. i have not checked the bios settings for the ports.
