Every time I put a floppy in my drive and try to write or read from it, I get a blue-screen warning that says it can't do it!!! Then, the disk is toast! Can't format it or use it in any other computer... Is the drive worthless, or is there something I can do to fix it?

Thanks!

Sounds like it is toast. See if you can borrow one from someone to make sure. Or just go and buy a new one.

For the price a drive it's not worth trying to fix. Just ripe that dude out of there and replace it.

Your post is a bit confusing after reading the thread topic, but sounds like you have a bad A: drive. Doesn't have anything to do with your hard disk (C /forum/smile.gif though.

Sounds like your floppy drive had a head crash against some disk media which ruined the read-write head.

Do you have little children in the house who may or may not have inserted something other than a bona fide floppy diskette into the drive. ( utensils, coins, broken CDROMS, cut down 5.25 floppies, card board, tooth picks, etc. etc. can you tell I've done phone tech support.... /forum/wink.gif)

Anyway - a new drive will run you about $25. Sell one of junior's collectible action figures and go get a new drive. /forum/smile.gif

Axel sounds like you are talking from experience. I just got a computer to repair that needs a floppy drive. One of the grand kids thought that the floppy would make a nice piggy bank and storage compartment. Unfortunatly they didn't leave enough money in it to replace the drive. Butchk /forum/smile.gif
