Well mates, 11 days ago, I underwent colon cancer surgery in Medellin. I think they got it all as it was isolated to one tumor. They presented me with a 12 inch long incision right down the middle, looks like I was in a machette fight. Outside of being sore as a boil, I'm doing rather well. Believe me, I was scared as hell that they might find more but nada.....pays to have frequent exams, they caught it early..

Yup.
Glad they didn't find anything, and you now have a scar to scare kiddies with ("This is where they inserted the lungs of the last kid that walked on my lawn")

Perhaps they inserted a brain whilst they was in there ..........

I thought the scar was on his chest, not his botty :)

Not zippers, probably those zip-lock things instead. Less chance of leakage.

Yup.

But they DID find a tumor and removed it. Looks like I was in a machette fight and left my machette at home. :)

But they didn't find anything AFTER it got removed! Just the one lump of nastiness.

Congrats on being a survivor. Cancer sucks and I hope one day they'll find a way to prevent it. Knew you were to mean to die on us. ;)

I know the feeling, had non hodgkins lymphoma 13 years ago. Scarey ****. And chemo and radiation are such a thrill. ;)

Leppy,
Now that the surgery has basically healed my Dr. insists that i have chemo as insurance against matastisizm...
The option he offered is one time in the hospital for 5 consecetive days, private room for me and the wife (because of language barrier) very expensive, or once a week for 6 consecetive weeks.
I know neither is much fun but he tells me it's a milder dosage than say chemo for breast cancer or lung cancer. What's your opinion?

Does your medical insurance not pay for it?

Not for "private rooms" and facilities for my wife.

Dunno what to tell you as to how to do it. I'd prefer it over and done but it would depend on the money situation. I know either way you will feel like carp. Did they say what drugs they'll be using?

It's always good to hear of someone who fought and won against this terrible desease. Not just colon, but all types of cancers.

Well I had my first go at chemo today, 10:00 A.M. I had 2 hours of I.V. and 5 bags af assorted chemicals. After the session my wife drove us to lunch at her folks apt. Ate lunch, felt pretty good and it's now 11:00 P.M. and I'm back on the net.....all in all it seems O.K.
I opted for the once a week sessions because of logistics. If I lived closer than one hr. from the hospital, I would have done the 5 day thing. The chemo treatments weren't as bad as the waiting anxiety.

How long do you have to have the chemo for? When my mom had it she'd start getting sick the day before in anticipation, nice stuff.

Seeing as its your backside do they just stick in a tube and tell you to relax? :x
