Short version: Get TrueImage 9 if you want to back up an NVRAID array
Long version:
I ran into some issues on a customer's computer this weekend. I thought I'd share my solution.
The customer wanted to run RAID1 (Mirroring) on their NF6100 board using the NVRAID SATA ports. I installed the drives, created the array, etc. They also bought Ghost 10 for backups. I installed Ghost and was able to create a backup in windows. This is where it gets sticky...
When booting the Ghost CD, it does not recognize the NVRAID array. I tried using the f6 option to manually add the RAID drivers, but Ghost said it already had drivers. I forced Ghost to take the floppy drivers the second time, but it still would not see the array. I downloaded the latest drivers from Nvidia's website to no avail. I tried the RAID drivers that came with the MB also.
Symantec's website does state that Ghost 10 will support RAID1 arrays (http://symantec.atgnow.com/consumer/resultDisplay.do?gotoLink=1353&docType=1000&contextId=5583%3A1353.1374&clusterName=SymantecConsumer&contentId=5c79df47-ebf0-4dbf-bd8c-530527bea1fd&responseId=a7a613d67668be41%3A1b1fbf4%3A10b41ad63c d%3A5cb4&groupId=4&answerGroup=1&score=1414&page=http%3A%2F%2Fservice1.symantec.com%2Fsupport% 2Fpowerquest.nsf%2Fpfdocs%2F2004024963607262%40Ope n%26amp%3Bkeywords%3D1&result=0&excerpt=Supported+RAID+levels&resultType=5000#). I tried the Symantec support/forum and got zilch.
Finally, I told the customer that I would try TrueImage 9 instead. I created a backup using TI9 and booted from the CD. It didn't see the array either! I tried the "safe mode" option and Voila! it saw the array. I ran a test restore and all seems fine.
Verdict: TrueImage 9 works if you use the safe mode to restore the drive. It may have something to do with NVRAID versus TI9 or Ghost10 since both programs had difficulties recognizing the RAID array.
