I'm a little bit confused here. I have a Hitachi IDE DVD drive (no specs, but it was manufactured in Dec '97, along with a Realmagic playback card (EM8300 chip). The person I bought them from said it would be a piece of cake to install and setup. Here's the problem...do I have to use the playback card instead of my normal 2d/3d cards? I've got 2 PC's...one has a Matrox G200 8MB AGP with a Voodoo2, and the other has an ATI Rage 128 Expert 2000 8MB AGP with a Voodoo2. I noticed the ATI card has it's own DVD program. Does this mean the Hitachi can work with the ATI instead of the Realmagic card?? I've got no documentation with this hardware, so please bare with me. Can someone help me out here? I'd really appreciate the help/info.

Hi.

The DVD decoder card will work along side your normal gfx card, not instead of.

The software that comes with you ATI card will use the processor to decode the DVD film etc, but as with most things hardware decoding is better than software.

Hope that helps, if not ask for more info.

Lee.

PS I just realised how nice it is to help someone else out, instead of just asking questions myself.
