PLease Help

<<<<<<<Any insight on this subject will be well appreciated>>>>>>>>

After receiving my 128 Megs of ECC SDRAM from STEP-Thermodynamics, I popped it in one of the DIMM slots and let it do its thing...

Unfortunetly, during boot-up, the BIOS auto-detect process for the SDRAM was very slugish (taking up to 2 minutes to count the 128 Megs of RAM). Sometimes it would only count to 64 Megs of RAM. Sometimes it would loop past 128 Megs of RAM and repeat the auto-detect process for the RAM over and over again.

Please HELP>>>>>>>>>

Thank you

Ream.... 2 hours and 20 minutes between posts? Hate to speak on behalf of the administrators here on this board, but a little patience on your part is warranted, and double posts are frowned upon.

You didn't make any mention of the motherboard type/model you have, and that would help as well......but here are some ideas.

Not all motherboards/bios support ECC memory. Its quite possible that yours does not and may account for the errors you have. Double check to make sure that yours supports ECC SDRAM.

Some bios settings will also have options to specify the type of SDRAM you have installed. If you have not already done so, consult your manual and see if some configuration needs to be done in order for the bios to operate it properly. Also make sure to see if it requires you to insert the memory module into a specific slot. Most boards are not particular, but yours may be.

Its also possible that the memory you purchased is not working properly. Stranger things have happened than getting a defective new part. So, start by checking the above mentioned items to see if it resolves your issue, and if not, then come back to your original post to amend it with what you have tried and what the status is.

Sorry for the double posts (just difficult watching other people get replies while all you have is that O staring at you), anyways I have a new MSI 6163 Rev.2 (Pro) Motherboard and I did select ECC RAM in the BIOS.

Thanks anyways
