Back when the 40x CD drives started coming out, I read that when CD's hit 52x, they would be comparible in access speed to hard drives. I was pricing today, and I saw some 56x'ers. Any one know if that 52x is true? I know hard drives have gotten faster since I read that article, but are 52's comparible in speed to the new hard drives of that time (HA, less than, very conservativley, a year ago!)

They mean data transfer rate. The access time of cdrom is still far larger than a hd.
