After upgrading to an AMD K6 III on an ASUS p5a M/b, my modem keeps dis-connecting after a few minutes (in fact it can be anything between 30secs & 10 mins).
Has anyone had this happen to them, it driving me nuts!!!

You said "After upgrading.." so I assume that it was working perfectly before upgrading?
BTW, I have no idea but thought it might help to clarify the above point. Are you having any other problems since upgrading?
What kind of modem is it?

I had trouble with my modem restarting my computer( Probably stilldo, but not as bad).
My tech support had me download "DirectX" from Microshaft and reduce the settings on my graphics accelerator. Also on another post,
wasmetioned about reseating video card and checking the power connection to the motherboard from the power supply. Also call your ISP support and have check your settings in your dailup box. Mine were wrong. Check to see if your modem is plugged in and all lines
are seated in the sockets good and tight. No twisted pins in the connectors. Try this.
Good luck. Have a nice holiday

Had a sound problem after upgrading but that's sorted.
The modem is a 56K internal (Rockwell chipset. I'm pretty certain it's not my telephone line as the same modem was being used before upgrading with no probs.
Can there be system conflicts even though none are reported? (eg com port problems).

I've just visited www.56k.com (http://www.56k.com) and saw the following re-disconnects
"If you normally get disconnected when you connect at 48000, you might try using:
+MS=56,0,9600,46000
If that didn't work, you would try:
+MS=56,0,9600,44000
+MS=56,0,9600,42000
and so on, reducing the maximum connect speed by 2000 each time. Experiment with different numbers to see if lower numbers result in fewer disconnects."
The thing is, where & how do I try this?

Y Cymro- To try different initialization strings click on Start/Settings/Control Panel/Modems. Highlight (select) the modem you want to use, click on Properties button/click on Connection tab/click on Advanced button.
In the Extra Settings box type in the ini.string you wish to try and click on OK. Click OK again and close Modems.
NetMedic is a good shareware program to use to get better insight on what is really happening with your connection rates.
