BLUNT and plain-spoken, John Prescott has been a magnet for controversy since he entered Parliament in 1970 as MP for Hull East, who he still represents.
His passion for expensive cars earned him the nickname Two Jags.

Prescott worked as a steward in the merchant navy and has carried an intense working class ethic with him to the very top of British public life. He despised the government's spin doctors and image-makers and expects voters to take him for what he is.
