How do I do a clean install of W98 upgrade on a 6.4 GB hd??

I really want to upgrade to a 18GB drive but my puter is pissing me off so I might want to do a clean re-install from scratch...

Is there a way to wipe the hd clean and start over.

I also have a full version of Windows 98. Would it be better to start with it. It is not my copy so it is not registered but can i still use it. Or should I re-install Windows 95 then do the upgrade ****??

thanks

Clean installs are always best. Just format it, and start up 98 upgrade, it will ask you for path to previous version for eligibility for using upgrade, insert 95 disk and enter, system will check it, when its done, it will ask you to insert 98 disk. No way do you want to install 95 then 98, you'll be asking for trouble.

topflite is right on.

Save all that you want saved before hand. Reboot to MS-DOS. You do have a startup disk, correct? Make sure is has the MSCDEX file on it. Also do you have your cd-rom drivers?

Here's the way I do it.

c: format
Insert start disk
a: copy *.* c:
After that is done, reboot with the floppy in
While still on the a: prompt
Type a: c:
Remove disk
Reboot
Go to a: and install CD-Rom drivers (unless you have boot from cd-rom capability)
Then you can do as topflite says
