Many times the power management features in Windows doesn't go well with the BIOS of many machines. And sometimes poorly written programs cause it too.

It used to be that I cold not gwet my puter to go onto standby, it clicked off, and then back on with the message 'windows could not go onto standby because some device drivers or programs are still running' or something like that.

I don't know how, but I have got it to go into standby now, but then it freezes.

Please help.

I was getting the same standby problem message. I went to MS knowledge base and looked up standby issues in Win98. It referred me to a utility download, pmtshoot.exe, that will scan your system and tell you what device is causing the problem. It told me it was my wacom tablet. I'm still trying to resolve the issue but maybe this will help someone else.
