Hi Folks.

I bought 2 of these toys and my friend bought 1 of them at out local computer show. I have absolutely NO problems with one installed in my K6 2 400. But when i put one in my friends 166mmx and put one in my 233 mmx, they work fine.. for about 5 minutes and then disconnect. I cannot find why... I switched the modem in the 233 to the 400 and vice versa, no problem when in the 400, put it back in the 233 and it acts up again. Could there be some kind conflict in my 233 and my friends 166? Maybe it doesnt like vx or vx pro chipsets?? etc... Please help. BTW. Min req for modem is 150 mhz, which isnt a prob in this case. If this doesnt work, Im blowing 80 on a zoom hardware 56k, which is what i have for my 33.6.

TIA

Even though the mfg says P166mmx or greater, most winmodems will not work on anything less than a 266. They just suck so much from the CPU that the modem quits, or the system crashes. Remember, they say P166mmx or better meaning a genuine Intel Pentium, NOT the AMD or Cyrix equivalent. You'd have to go to a Cyrix or AMD 333 to get the same math co-processing power of the Intel.

You could try going to 56k.org or amquest's webpage. When you do, there is a setting to lenghten the wait time period. I had to do this to a P233 with a Viva 56k modem. Also, those PCI modems take a helluva lot more processor power than the ISA modems. I only use ISA modems on all my PC's...including my 400's and 450's.
