Hello,

it sounds simple, but when I want to hook up my ps/2 mouse to my com1 port with an adapter, win98 does not recongnize the mouse.

How can I do that?

Thank you

Volker

Just put the adapter on your PS2 connector and plug it into Com1. Windows will see it there when you boot. Most mice come with this adapter, if not check your local comp store or radio shack.

I've had the same problem, yet the same mouse worked fine on the PS/2 port when I got the PS/2 adapter for the mb. I know the PS/2-serial adapter was ok, because I had a different PS/2 mouse that did work on the serial port. The new mouse was a wheel mouse, and maybe that had something to do with it.

PS/2 mice and serial mice are not wired the same. Where the confusion comes from is that there is such a thing as a combination Serial-PS/2 mouse that will work as described. A straight serial mouse will not have wires connected to the pins in the connector that are required by the PS/2 mouse and vice versa but a combo mouse will.
