I and trying to find out what would be recommended for a program to protect about 30 pcs.

Wondering what some of you would recommend. Anyone had any luck with AVG? They have a pretty nice licensing price.

Looking for good bang for buck, don't want to go broke trying to protect these pcs...

Any help would be appreciated....

I like Avast! (free for home use)

it can find stuff AVG Free and Symantec Norton cannot find.

you're not supposed to use the freebies in an office environment.

do you need centralized control or are you just going to have each client update themselves? if you don't have central management, make sure to stagger the update times or else they will all clog the network at one time.

Thanks for the replys.

Midknyte, Right now we have 4 offices 3 have multipule pc's and one just a desktop and a laptop.

I was thinking of going to a centralized solution at 2 of the bigger locations if I could load the software that pushes the updates on a computer other than a win2k or win2k3 server. The small location can update themselves, and the "home office" has a small business server installed, and I think it would have the ability to push updates to users.

My concern is: I will need a program that will be easy to mix and match because of the different scenarios we have wit the locations.

Again, any suggestions would be appreciated....

BPB, with the above program does it matter how it is installed as long as you have enough licenses to cover the number of installs?

I'm not sure. There is a volume license - ask them.

You said you wanted a "good" antivirus. BitDefender is the highest rated lately and it's affordable.

These packages include network management:

Go with NOD32. It's one of the most powerful AVs available but it is also light on resource.

Also download a use Avast! V4 Home Edition (free) for a second opinion when necessary.

Use NOD32 online and Avast! offline.

I posted the same response in another thread but it's more appropriate here.

I know Nod & Avast are good but I can't stand their GUI's. Yuck!!

Kaspersky is still my choice!

Bitdefender.........blah......Sorry BPB.....just not impressed with it.....you should get a copy & run some tests......you would agree. :)

I have all the top dogs & freebies installed on my tech machines.......When hooking hosed drives & scanning........Kaspersky still finds the most.

Real World testing.........M-F 50 hrs per week.

My .02.........

Hey G......Are you getting kick backs from eset now? Off the Kaspersky bandwagon & on to Nod these days...........Ahahahahaha. I crack myself up. Kaspersky is still winning all the online tests that I see. Oh well........Peace out.

Bitdefender.........blah............

I know Bitdefender scores high but it seems to be another NAV in that its resource hungry. I know quite a few people that have ditch it for that reason alone.
Also it appears to clash with both Outpost and Zone Alarm firewalls.

Has anyone else come accross this issue?

Kaspersky is still doing it for me and comming out tops in the tests i am seeing.

I like Nod32 too but I don't recommend it for novice users cos the GUI is not so friendly to the uninformed.

Kaspersky must have made signifant strides with it's GUI. The last time I used it, it was worse than NOD32 by far.

intimidator: (hello buddy :-) Still stirring the **** I see :D)

I made a mint recommmeding F-Secure and Kaspersky that I want to have a go with NOD32 :D.

Seriously, Kaspersky is tip-top and that has always been my view. The same goes for F-Secure which uses Kaspersky's definition database. Yes, when I recommended KAV to Bill the UI was horrid and over complex for newbie’s. Since then they have made significant strides in improving it.

However, both KAV and F-Secure can be heavy on resources and for this reason I investigated NOD32.

Unfortunately, although I would strongly recommend NOD32 as my first commercial choice the low-level driver related to NOD32 and my hardware means although I have paid for a 3-year upgrade license I’m not using it. I’m back on F-Secure AV Client Security V6.01 for Win2K-XP.

Now that I have uninstalled the latest version of ZoneAlarm, a firewall I have used for years, but no longer need a software firewall, I may be able to get NOD32 back up and runing.

intimidator:
There’s nothing wrong with KAV, it is tip-tip IMO, and should be anyone’s first port of call, followed by F-Secure and NOD32 too. Keep away from Symantec and McAfee.

Glad you took my advice on KAV ;-)
