cd reinstall?

have a 56x (hah) mcafee cdrom--installed a new cpu...now the system will only configure cd as slave on secondary instead of master..also doesnt show as audma device now...running some pio level.. ive re run auto detect...and tried to force system to use it as master.have NOT touched cd rom jumpers???? help.....cd rom shows in system under settings/control panel/system.. but NOT under windows explorer..

I dont think I can offer any help, but I have the saeme problem. However, I think it is due to my really old harddrive. When I changed the jumer on my cdrom to secondary master, the system was ridiculously slow. I just removed the jumper entirely form the cdrom and it worked fine for me. Mayber by setting it up as a sec. master it would be 2 seconds faster but that is not worth to me the time.

If your hd is new, it should work as god intended

make sure the cdrom is on the second eide cable and change the jumper to master. you might have to remove the jumper completely. if this does not work then visit the web site for your cd rom.
