Just installed a new mobo, Intel se440bx with a PII 400. During first boot the soundcard was detected (built into the mobo), and I installed the drivers I had previously downloaded from Intels website.

When I try to play anything, I am informed that I don't have a soundcard. Have uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers - no change. In Device Manager the Crystal PNP Audio System Codec has a yellow !, and when I try properties I get a msg saying: "Windows stopped responding while attempting to start this device, and therefore will never attempt to start this device again (Error 11)".
Any ideas?

I had the same problem with my old al444lx with an p3-333 when I changed out the harddrives. and I just followed these and it took care of it for me. http://support.intel.com/support/motherboards/desktop/se440bx/win95.htm http://support.intel.com/support/motherboards/desktop/se440bx/win98.htm

Thanx, Gene. I actually _did_ follow these guidelines - still didn't work. But then I tried removing the drivers while in windows, and then reinstalled them, not during boot, like I had been doing but after windoze had loaded - it worked! God knows why, but I am listening to some cool Mp3's right now, so I don't care! /forum/smile.gif
