I just want to know if having more ram will make my computer faster?

Sometimes. Memory intensive programs use either ram or swap-files on the HDD. For these, having sufficient ram does speed up the action.

The question is "how much is enough?". 64MB seems to be the comfortable amount for most W98 systems. I am running 128MB, and a cute little indicator, whose accuracy I question, seldom tells me I'm using all of it. It does, however, show more than half is used.

Tell us what kind of system you have, and what you want to do with it....Roy's right, 64mb is comfortable, but 128mb is a standard for newer systems......DawgTuff.

More memory will ALWAYS make your computer faster.
ALWAYS
This is even more evident while running Linux

Usually more is better and faster depending on how much the chipset will cache for instance the TX chipset only has a 64MB cache so anything over that actually runs Win95 slower.

Hi,

When I first installed NT4 and 98 on my PC, I had 64Mb and I was happy with that.
A few weeks later, I upgraded to 128Mb. I noticed a big difference under NT4: less disk activity. It was running much smoother.
I could see a difference under 98, but as noticeable as under NT4.
Then later, I upgraded to 256Mb. Still under NT4, I noticed the difference !!!
Under 98, no obvious increase in speed.

My conclusion would be: if you run NT4 (or 2000), the bare miniumm I recommend is 128Mb. For 98, the bare minimum would be 64Mb

I forgot to mention that when I bought the mem, the prices were much much lower (128Mb SDRam PC100 @ 59 UK Pounds)... that makes a difference !!!
