Hi,
My computer with(win98) suddenly has this error message from Power Management: "Your computer cannot go on standby because a device driver or program won't allow it. Close all your programs and then try again." Everything is closed and to be sure I hit control-alt-delete-- the only programs running are explorer and systray. What can I do to find the culprit? Also, though somewhat off topic, if your bios says pentium3 but your system information and device manager say pentium2 which one is right?
Thanks in advance & Happy Thanksgiving!
Kay

Sorry, there's more. Before it tries to go into standby, it says: "Your computer will go into standby in 15 seconds" There's a little indicator that fills with blue with an option to cancel standby. I've never seen this before. Then, after my 15 second warning, I get the message mentioned in the previous posting.

If you haven't done so already, go to www.microsoft.com (http://www.microsoft.com) and download the Win98 Shutdown critical update patch.
There is a known problem with shutdown, and this might just fix it. Disabling fast shutdown from msconfig (I think) and disabling Power Management features in your BIOS are also believed to be factors.
