Can anyone tell me why my new soundblaster card makes a "popping" noise on power up and down?

Mine pops too, but I really think it's the speakers, not the SBLive card. I've even turned off the speakers well after the computer has been shut down, and they still pop. I'm not an electronics wiz, but I would assume it has something to do with the discharge of electricity from the speaker when it's turned off. Anyone else want to comment on that?

yeah, that was the only time I ever got the pop - was when I powered them off. But this occurs without powering the speakers and during a reboot.

it has to di with the power going threw the speakers I presume that this is an ATX MB and you are doing a soft power down.

I don't know what ATX means. I have a "Ultra DMA33 Motherboard"? AMD K-6 II processor. Yeah, it's during soft and hard boots.

when you go to the Start>shutdown does it power itself off? and is it during this procces that you hear the pop?
If so this is somewhat normal. It is just some leftover power going thru the system. I had that too but now I don't got a newer MB that powers down better.
Also the soft powerdown is different than the soft boot.
But you will probibly hear it during bootup too.
All normal unless it is a real loud

I've been hesitant to post my initial response to this before because its a little off the wall...
Try removing and reinerting your live card a few times just to make sure it's making good contact in the socket. May help.

after looking at as many soundblaster live forums as possible, there seems to be some kind of problem with the soundblaster live card and AMD-K6 2 mb's. Is there anyone out there who can explain to me, in human terms, what I need to do, short of returning my card. It seems there are many SoundBlaster live problems. If I do return it - can anyone suggest a comparable sound - NO CREATIVE LABS
