My friend has a Dell XPi pentium 75 laptop. It has 16mb ram, and a 850mb harddrive. His mom was playing solitaire with it while watching TV. She went to turn the TV off with the remote control and when the TV turned off, so did the laptop. He has not been able to get it to turn on since. The battery has been taken out and tested and it works. All components have been removed from the laptop to try and narrow down the problem. After being stripped down to just the circuit board it still will not turn on. Any suggestions? Anyone heard of this before? Any simple way to fix it? Thanks for your help.
Shot in the dark here. Some laptops actually have a small circuit breaker built into them.
Usually you can see a small hole somewhere on the case that has a button inside that you can push to reset it.A paperclip will do the trick. These reset buttons are usually found on the older laptops and judging from your specs it sounds fairly old.If the laptop and tv were both hooked to the same circuit it is possible that tyhere was a power surge when she turned off the tv causing the laptop breaker to popoff.
I am not sure if Dell did this with their laptops but I have seen thia on Panasinoc and Ibm laptops.
Envy is probably right. I have a newer Dell Inspiron 3500 and it has a reset switch. I am not sure where it would be located on your machine but it is on the left side of mine. I have had the same problem and using a paperclip to reset the computer did the trick. Hope that helps.
