Actima #A36T CD-ROM is worst unit I've ever encountered. Drivers really mess up sys. Takes twice as long to boot now. Bios says ATAPI not compatible. Have to hit F1 to continue. Please tell me how to get the sys cleaned up and some other driver installed. Am running Win98. Driver is for Win95.

Call off the dogs, guys. The problem was not the product, it was the instructions. Turns out this unit doesn't need any drivers installed. It's totally PnP and the is recognized by Windows. The drivers with the package are only for DOS. I deleted the Autoexec.bat and Config.sys entrys, and then reinstalled Win98, like Actima support told me to do, and everything is fine. Turns out this unit installs automatically. Just don't pay attention to any drivers in the box. Actima has an easy to get to support phone no., and very helpful.

Thanks for your help, Volker.

check out the registry for leftovers:
run regedit and then make a search (f3) by typing n some keyword describing your model.
Get rid of all the stuff that comes up.
Also, start sysedit and do the same.
kill al info in autoexec and config.sys
