System Specs:

ASUS A8N5X Mobo
AMD A64 3700+ San Diego
2-Gig Ram (4 x 512) DDR400 Corsair ValueSelect
FSP Group (Fortron Source) 500 Watt PSU
eVGA Geforce 6800GS
(2)-IDE HDD, (2)-SATA HDD
Blah, Blah, Blah.

Right now my DDR400 memory is running at DDR333 because of the 4 x 512 config & the mem control restriction of the A64 3700.

My question is, Will a single core AMD A64 4000+ CPU allow my 4 x 512 Dual Channel mem run at DDR400 ?

Thank's

nope. that is just the way it is with the onchip memory controller 4 dimms will downclock the ram to ddr 333. you should be running 2 dimms instead.

Soooo...What if I move to an A64 FX ?

it's the same thing. amd64s will downclock the ram because the memory controller has to manage 4 dimms instead of just 2.

that's interesting. P4's don't do that. This is most peculiar....

Tell me about it! I got cought up in all the great AMD "Hoopla" & switched my P4 3.0Ghz for an A64 that can't handle 4-sticks dual channel.

Why, then, do they even make an AMD Mobo with 4-slots??

I don't make them, I 'm just telling you like it is. Just about any forum will tell you the same thing. you need to run 2 dimms to get maximum performance.

And I appreciate that, Midknyte, nothing personal intended to anyone.

Just one of those expensive upgrade new-builds that didn't turn out as expected. Even though I thought I checked out everything & asked the right questions, but, Live & Learn.

Now the wife has the P4 build...Doubt if I can sneek that back!
