I am thinking of getting a new CD-RW drive to replace my POC HP 7100i. I have been looking at the Yamaha CRW4416 IDE drive. Also i am contemplating wether or not to get the SCSI version of this drive (CRW6416) and use it with the Adaptec 2930Ultra SCSI card. Although the SCSI would be alot more $$, i realize it would be way more reliable and also the ability to do other things while burning.
If anyone has any experience with any of the products i've listed here please give me some input.
Thanks

I have this scsi/drive combo. Burned 30+ CD-Rs sucessfully. No problems at all, so far. You can get the CRW6416sz for $176 at Buycomp. Just been there. They still have it in stock at that price. $10 more than the 4416 IDE.
There's nothing wrong with the Yamahas. Plextors are the best tho..

I use a Smart and Friendly CD-R (SCSI external) and get fewer coasters than my HP 8110i. I don't recommend S&F b/c we have had some probelms with durability. We use it to archive experiments and burn about 5-10 a week (for the past 1.5 yrs). I do recommend SCSI though, especiallly with a SCSI CD-ROM.
