Hi,
I'll try to be short in describing my probnlem. But I doubt I can do that.
System specs:
Amptron3748lmt mobo, processor - C366 @ 550 (using peltier, large heatsink, huge fan to cool CPU - CPU temp is stable between 34 and 38C.) 128 PC100 sdram (CAS latency set on 3, access speed 10n), 2 CD-ROMS (1 burner), 1 maxtor HD (5400rpn i think, but not sure), zip disk, floppy disk. Everything else, such as 8mb 3d video card w/accelerator, modem, LAN card are build in the mobo.

Problem:
computer boots up just fine, works for about an hr, then some programs start crashing with an error message saying that an error occured in <unknown>, or kernel32.dll, or user.exe. Usually it happenes to browser, game "ultima online". Then after restarting my applications about 3 or 4 times a blue window pops up saying that system become unstable or tells me that I have an error in kernel32.dll, or user.exe. Then I end up restarting my PC. And it usually doesn't help. After about 5 min of running applications (doesn't matter what I am running it could be a game, browser, or CD player). A blue window pops up again telling me that my system is unstable or I have errror in kernel32.dll or user.exe.
If I'll turn my pc off for a period of time it'll work for an hr or so and then same story all over again.

Ï am assuming it is a temp problem, but what could it be: ram or mobo? I had a problem before with my ram (himem error ona safe boot),but it went away.

Please let me know what you think if you have any knowledge to share.

Thanks, Iliia.

Have you tried running your computer with the case opened up? or maybe after your system warms up and things had a chance to expand one of your cards isn't making good contact. hope this helps.

case has been open since I purchased it. As I mentioned before all my cards are build in. I have 1 PCI slot, and it's open.

The only way I stopped having this problem was by disabling my built in lan card and reinstalling 98. I have a PCCHIPS m585LMR. 98SE didn't like the lan.

in the "run" menu you might want to try and type "SFC" (system file checker). i had some unusual crashes so I ran it and it turned out that my user.exe file was corrupt and now it's a lot better with only the "usually" occasional windows crashes /forum/smile.gif. give it a try. hope it helps

oh also you if you have a recent snapshot of your registry you might want to restore it to before when it started give you problems and this too might help. I use configsafe and when my overclocking has screwed up my registry i can always restore it with configsafe. good luck /forum/smile.gif.

How bout dropping the cpu speed a notch, this is a sign of overclocking problems. Take it back to 366 just to see if things straighten out.

Try returning to 66 FSB and make extensive benchmarks and run scandisk, defrag, etc. for a while. If anything happends jump to the 75 FSB and do the same, but don't try the 83 FSB... and finally jump to the 100 FSB.

If problems only appear on 100 FSB check your sys cooling, ram BIOS settings, etc. something could be wrong for the O/C to work correctly.

If problems appear on any other FSB then try reinstalling win9x... files could have been corrupted.

when I overclocked my system it run perfect for about 2 months before the problem start occuring. I think it started after I finally installed drivers for my LAN card, which was about a week ago. I just reinstalled my win98SE, well the problem persist. I am on the internet thou, typing, BUT once in awhile I get an error message saying that I an error occured in my kernel386.dll. I tried running my system before reinstalling the windows at 66fbs, same story. I am getting pretty frustrated.
I dissabled my LAN card but there is a some software called Lightline is still starts on a system boot I am not sure how to remove it. I found an .exe file that fires up lightline, but I can't remove it. I get a message saying that window are using this file.
I guess my next step will be installing win98, not win98SE.
Thanks for all your feedback.

one more thing. I get ae error message right after my autoexec.bat instruction are finished loading.
"Invalid switch : \SIMPLEUI"
I should of mentioned it before. I think I start getting it when the problem first occured.

Thanks again, and any sujestions are appreciated; expert or not an expert let's brain storm it.

Save or back up any thing you want keep, files extra, then do a format of hard drive and reinstal every thing fresh, do not load backup files yet, see if problem persists, if it does run scan disk, if alls well with scan disk, see if you can hire a heat gun( similer to the type Gene_C is after), check All areas of Mobo after error occurs to see if you can find a hot spot. If you can't get heat gun you will have to use back of hand or fingers, watch out for static, take precautions and make sure power is off, you might find area that is extra hot. you might have some resisters going down.
