I sort of got carried away with ZA Pro and went into Admin and disabled some things I shouldnt had! Like many services beginning with R thinking it prevented remote access!
The system still boots but of course System Restore wont work and I cant change anything in Services to get things back.

Im at a quandry here:

1 Save all my non OS files to another PC on the home network and start over with a reformat, etc. This will require reinstalling MANY, MANY apps; lots of time.

2. Is there some way to repair this? I have both XP Pro and Home CD's.

3. Somewhat related; can I put the HD with the messed up OS as a slave drive on another PC using XP Home and set that PC up to dual boot? That will at least allow me access to my Office 2000 stuff which is not loaded on the Home HD.

Mea Culpa! Next time I'll stay dumb and safe.

Why can't you go into Admin tools/services and reenable the ones you disabled?

The option to do that doesnt exist any longer due to "whatever" I did to screw things up.

Time to do a repair install of the OS then.

Will a repair install wipe out any non OS files?
Also my CD is an old version, will I have to reload all updates from that time; SP1, SP2, GWA, etc?

My only reinstall experiences have been 98SE and older; XP has been fine until I got loose in it.

It won't hurt any data. You need to create a "slipstreamed" XP CD with SP2:
