I just installed RedHat Linux 6.1 on my ol' Pentium 60. Unfortunately, I cannot boot Linux. I turn on the computer, LILO loads, and I get to the LILO prompt. When I press ENTER to boot Linux, I get the message "Block Move Error 0x01", and I am returned to the LILO prompt. If I keep pressing ENTER, this message repeats.

I did some experimentation by putting that HD with Linux into my P233. It booted just fine. Thus, I know there is a hardware compatibility somewhere. The P60's Award BIOS sticks the drive in LBA mode and says it's 78Mb. This was never a problem in Win98, as it got formatted as 4.3Gb anyway. My P233 auto-detects the drive properly as 4.3Gb NORMAL (non-LBA) mode. The strange thing is, I do not believe this is due to the BIOS not supporting the HD. This is because Linux can still mount the drive even if I tell the BIOS that no drives are installed in the system (drive type = "None"). As well, Linux won't boot off the boot floppy on the P60, but boots fine off the floppy on my P233.

To make a long story short, I am searching for a solution to this crazy problem. If you have seen the "Block Move Error 0x01" error message before, please reply. Thanks.

Thanks for pushing my thread up.

Actually, I fixed my own problem. It turns out that Memory Parity Check was turned on in the BIOS. By turning this off, Linux now boots OK.
