hi,

i (maybe) have a problem my IBM DJNS 371350 (13,5gb; 7200 u/min)!

I bought it 2 weeks ago and just yesterday i realized that the HD has become somewhat louder and after a few hours i realized that it has become A LOT louder. I opened my Tower
and i just saw that the drive was crooked (dont complain, i looked that up in my dict. /forum/smile.gif] at an angle of some degrees. Is this possible defection permanent (it seems to be working normal, except that it got A LOT louder), and is there any chance that i can go to the place where i bought it and chage it (of course i wont say them it was my mistake).

i'm glad about every answer

Well, let's see... I know you're not really supposed to mount a HDD crooked like that. I suppose that that is probably the problem... Perhaps somehting got a little bit out of alignment inside. I'm sure that you could probably return it to the place that you bought it and play dumb /forum/wink.gif Most places will let you return defective things up to 30 days from the purchase date. After that, you would have to send it back to IBM. Warranty is 3 years on that drive. I just got the same drive in today, hope it doesn't have any problems like that /forum/smile.gif

one way or the other, the drive is junk.

I'm not sure about the mounting crooked part. I've had my boxes laying sideways for awhile at times with no apparent problems. If it wasn't mounted tightly, there may have been some vibration or jarring somehow..

But I agree with Petros, if the drive is only 2 weeks old, I would return it and get another, and mount properly. /forum/smile.gif

I just got (about 6 weeks ago) a new IBM 7200 ultra ATA/66 and I can't hear it at all. My old Segate allways made little clicking sounds when it was accessing files but , this one doesn't make a sound that I can hear. I'd return it.

I got the same drive, mine seems to be noisey on start up, then after a couple of minutes its reasonably quiet. It was like that from the very start (1 week ago).

If in fact the drive is very loud you most probably will be experincing hard drive failure any day. Loud noises are cause by alignment issues, meaning the head is to close to the platters on the drive. This could be what the noise is from. If you notice the noise getting louder you should change the drive right away, then again , this is a 7200rpm IDE drive WICKED FAST it could be a loud drive
