I need to set my desktop up as part of a Domain, but when I right click on My Computer, go to Properties and then Computer Name, there is nothing there to change network ID. Only option I have is to change the computer name or join a workgroup. When I do the same on my laptop, I have the 'Network ID' button there, and I can then set up a Domain.

Why isn't this button showing up on the desktop? I tried a search for 'domain' but couldn't find an answer

If it's XP Pro:
- right-click My Computer
- click Properties
- choose the Computer Name tab
- click Change

That's where you can change your computername and what domain/workgroup you want to be a member of.

When in Computer name screen, try to click on the Change, and see the options.
