I was just windering if a slower, older hard drive can slow down bootup. I have an older 1.3gb drive and a brand new 8.4gb at 5200rpm. The older one is the one with the OS on it so it boots to that one. Should i copy it onto the other drive and get rid of it. Any suggestions?

Yes, older drives will slow you down. You will be surprised at your increase in speed if you switch the HD's.
What you can do is set the 8.4G as the Master on your primary IDE and put the old drive on your secondary IDE. This way you can use your old drive as a backup device and it won't interfere with the speed of your new drive.
When you've swapped out hard drives, also clean up your start-up menu ~ right click on your task bar - properties - start menu programs - advanced - programs - start-up ~ my advice - don't load anything you don't absolutely use all of the time.

Okay, I , like an idiot, switched my 1.3 to DMA, and then rebooted. As you might have guessed, it did not work. I got a invalid system disk or disk error, but there was no floppy in the disk drive. Luckily my other hard drive was fine and had my win98cabs on it so i switched it to a master and booted off the floppy and reinstalled win98. It is soooooo muchh faster now. It boots it under a minute! Thanks for the advice guys!

Spyder, hit start ,to run, when box comes up type msconfig, click ok,screen comes up, go to last tab (far right), click and all the things that are running in background will be shown, unclick all that you really do'nt need running(ICQ,Yahoo Pager,Critical updates, scanner, etc.) and you will be amazed at the resources saved for use elsewhere.
