Anyone know of a way to remove IE4 from WIN98? I've heard of some available software.
Win98 is said to run better and faster w/IE4 removed.

You cannot remove Microsoft Internet Explorer from Windows 98 because Internet Explorer is integrated into Windows 98.

Windows 95 has a program to uninstall IExplorer named ieremove.exe.
If you upgraded 95 to 98 that program will still be there along with Ie4.txt. A text file with complete instructions on IE removal. DON'T use the program and don't use the method outlined in the text file.

If there are other programs that claim to do this. Be wise. Don't fool around with them.

As stated above, IE is part of OS.

RE: the comments by Bleeding edge. while they were true, in general, about win98 & IE4,
98lite works just fine, there is an active BB at the site about removal of IE4 & use of 98lite.
go to the posted website & see for yourself.

It's true! I have been running stable over 3 months with 98lite.
I used the "Clean Load" method but there is a IE remover version which 2 friends could not get to work. I guess it's worth a try, but if you can afford a full format/software reload it does work. 98 is also a lot faster without EI and active desktop.

Lost my Win95 OSR2.5 CD. Where can I download the necessary files?
Explorer.exe
Shell32.dll
Comdlg32.dll
Notepad.exe
Wordpad.exe

I'm eager to try this.

Gordon -

I tried 98lite for a few days on two different occasions and found it to be rock solid and much faster than full blown Win98.

However, I switched back to Win95 OSR2.1 because 98lite isn't still quiet as fast as Win95. You should try it though, and be your own judge.

Good luck with your choice...

Thanks for input. I'll give 98lite a try.
